There’s been a lot of comment about
the draft RUC vehicle types and weight bands in the Ministry of Transport consultation document and, understandably, operators who would be adversely affected are highly critical.….

But it’s vital to remember that there’s still a long way to go before the new regulations are finalised.

The proposed vehicle types and weight bands are a strong indication of where the officials are heading, but they are genuinely seeking industry feedback. And we’re insisting that there will be continuing opportunities for comment and refinement before the regulations are locked down.

The Forum has already made its first detailed suggestions for improvements to the Ministry of Transport. The areas we’re concentrating on are outlined in the next story – but this is just the first round in what we anticipate will be an exhaustive (and potentially exhausting) process.
