How safe are your electronic records from Government snooping

RTF

The Forum’s been getting a bit of
feedback lately from its members about the use (or more  accurately, the asserted misuse) of their electronic records by  enforcement agencies to mine their data for possible evidence of offences.

With the wealth of information available from engine management systems and now the introduction of eRUCs and elogbooks for worktime recording, it’s entirely understandable that operators are concerned about what their data can be used for.

We’ve been acutely aware of the potential for officials to see these electronic records as an easy enforcement method. To be fair, officials here aren’t unique in seeing the opportunity: Around the world, enforcement agencies are seeking to expand their access to operators’ data.

That’s why the Forum has been ultra-vigilant in seeking to ensure that any official access to electronic records is limited and closely defined.
