Hamilton truck-body builder, Action Motor Bodies, is carving out a sizeable niche building mobile medical vehicles, and has just delivered a dental clinic trailer for high-profile dental practice, Lumino. |

The trailer, the first mobile dental clinic Action Motor Bodies has built for a private client, will take free, Government-funded dental care to schools on Auckland’s North Shore. Constructing the Lumino unit is an extension of work Action Motor Bodies has been doing, building mobile dental clinics for district health boards (DHBs) around New Zealand. The mobile units replace traditional dental clinics at schools and allow DHBs to service more schools in more areas and increase the number of students who receive dental care. “We’ve been making mobile dental clinics for 21 DHBs and we’ve produced more than 100; by the end of the contract we will have produced 127,” says Devoy The mobile dental clinic for Lumino was “a collaborative idea between ourselves and Lumino in terms of specs. It’s an 11.5 metre semi-articulated truck trailer of GRP construction, and has an EBS brake system, airbag suspension, and tandem axles.” Devoy says Action Motor Bodies has built 33 mobile dental clinics like the Lumino unit, “but it’s the first one to go into the private market.” Under the DHB contract, Action Motor Bodies builds four different configurations of mobile dental clinics; a level one assessment unit intended for screening and three different configurations of surgery units, two with one chair and one with two chairs. Two of the units are fitted to truck chassis, the others are towed. |
