Quad Logger cuts turnaround time and boosts productivity
Whangarei log hauler Aotearoa Haulage is revolutionising its business and expanding productivity with a new purpose-built Patchell Quad Semi Logger.
The trailer, hauled by a brand-new Western Star tractor unit, is the first of its type built by Rotorua-based log trailer specialist, Patchell Industries.
It’s a development of the traditional three-axle bailey bridge trailer, with the fourth axle providing the ability to carry a greater load. Without the fourth axle, the trailer couldn’t carry 45 tonnes.
The six-bolster trailer runs on BPW Eco Plus disc-braked axles and suspension on 435/50 19.5 singles. It has a tare of 6500kg.
Patchell Industries’ Peter Rickard says the concept behind the trailer – devised by Patchell in association with Aotearoa Haulage owner, Steve Batchelor – is aimed at maximizing versatility and quick turnaround.
Add to that improved safety because the entire operation of the Quad Logger is ground-based.
Not having to disconnect a second trailer and piggy-back it on the return run to the forest contributes to the quick turnaround, as does the ability to adjust the bolsters (two of them are moveable) for varying-length logs.
